UrgoStart’s NICE recommendation is renewed

In January 2019 the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommended UrgoStart, with its patented TLC-NOSF technology, for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers1.

In the latest update of this guidance, April 2023, NICE continues to make this recommendation2 stating that “UrgoStart is recommended as a cost saving option to treat diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers.

NICE have stated in the latest guidance that they made these recommendations because; UrgoStart is a range of dressings which can improve wound healing for diabetic foot ulcers and improve the rate of wound healing for venous leg ulcers. Cost modelling shows that UrgoStart is cost saving compared with standard care dressings in these groups. UrgoStart should therefore be considered as an option for people with diabetic foot ulcers or venous leg ulcers after any modifiable factors such as infection have been treated.”

The full NICE guidance report is available to read here along with an adoption support resource3 and a resource impact report4 and template5.

The adoption support resource, which is complementary to the guidance, provides practical information and advice to help with adoption of UrgoStart into clinical practice. It highlights benefits such as improving patient outcomes in terms of wound healing and quality of life, ease of use and long-term cost savings4.

The resource impact report and template help to estimate the cost savings that could be achieved by adopting UrgoStart locally.

Further information on the UrgoStart range itself can be found on the product pages of this website.
